Robert Trimbole's Hat - Suntan 7''

Very obscure 7'' from Oz. Released in 1987, there is very little information I can tell you about this band. Extremely secretive. One thing I know is that they were previously called Brain Spasms and hailed from Maryborough (the Victorian town, not Queensland). They named themselves after a notorious (alleged) criminal supposedly involved in the murder of Donald Mackay (anti-drugs campaigner). Trimbole wore distinctive hats as you can see from the included images.

All the best if ever you can find a copy of this - my call is 'impossible'. Have a listen. It sounds great.

The Purple Helmets - Ride Again

Most peculiar band. Essentially begun out of boredom. Two of the Stranglers (JJ Burnell & Dave Greenfield) teamed up with a Vibrator (John Ellis) and Tear For Fear (Manny Elias). Because there was downtime with their current bands, they got together and thrashed out a heap of covers: Louie Louie, Woolly Bully, Don't Bring Me Down, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, Can't Explain, All day And All Of The Night etc etc. It's a rippa. Released in 1998.

The Purple Helmets - Rise Again

Second and last album from 1989. After this, everyone went back to their burgeoning day jobs.

City Kids - The Name Of The Game (Live)

Another swag of  'Rob Younger Production' releases. This time (1983) it's a French band and a live album to boot.

Download Mini LP

City Kids - The Orphans Parable

1986 release with Rob Younger and Alan Thorne producing. Second album.

City Kids - 1000 Soldiers

1989 release. They may have self-produced this, but I stand to be corrected.

City Kids - Third Life

Yup, third album (1993). Not sure if the Rob Younger connection is still there.

City Kids - Self Titled EP

This is where it all started for me in 1985. It would be my desert island disk from their output.

City Kids - The Real Thing 7''

Single from 1986 to accompany 'The Orphans Parade'. In fact, both tracks are on the LP.

City Kids - Glasscage 7'' & Live

Last single from 1990. I believe a double LP that compiles some of their tracks with live and studio sides is out there. Also missing from these blog entries is the 2023 LP 'The Leader Of The World'. I don't like blogging albums that are current. The live album ('Live') only came out on CD in 93 and I also don't have. If you can help out with that one, I'd be VERY appreciative.

Stop the press - I now have the Live album. Whooo Hoo. Available now in the link below. Thank you for sending this to me Jeff.

Wallspace - Nightweather

2005 production from Rob Younger. This is their one and only album. Wayne Connolly helps out with mixing. Released by Laughing Outlaw Records - one of my fave labels in Australia.

Meera Atkinson - This is the Planet (Poetry & Songs)

This is a real oddity. Produced by Rob Younger (Radio Birdman) and on the Citadel Label. It stars a veritable who's-who of Aussie punk: Charlie Owen, Steve Harris, Ron Peno, Nick Fisher, Penny Ikinger and Louis Tillett. Meera separates the songs with Poetry! That's not very punk. It's not that the album is bad - it's just that, at the time (1986), I expected .... dirty Aussie RnR. Punk. I bought the album on the basis of who was on it; only to be confused and disappointed. Come on in Sucker. Anyway, I'm still trying to get my head around this LP. Don't know if I ever will!!

Playmates - Long Sweet Dreams

Another album produced by Rob Younger, and - equally peculiar. The band is Swedish and they sing in English. Rob deviates from his full-on RnR style to produce an album that is hardly that. Hey - it's a good album. Well worth a listen. Released in 1986.

Deniz Tek - Orphan Tracks

A handy collection of assorted (non LP) tracks which found their way onto a 1989 CD. Now, hard to find. Deniz of course, was a founding member of Radio Birdman. Interesting guy - he's a Medical Doctor and pilot. Few can lay claim to that trifecta.

The Slaters - The Big Black Bug Bled Black Blood ...

The Sydneysiders one and only album from 1992. It includes bonus tracks which are of note. For starters, a cover of 'Oldest Story In The World' (Plimsouls) and also 'Stuff n Junk' (produced by Rob Younger.

This album took me sometime to get. Rare as rocking horse shit. It was released on Zero Hour Records - a Perth based label that's a bit of a fave of mine. Them good.

The singles that I'm listing below are requests. I do not have these. If you can help out with mp3 files, please do not hesitate to make contact via email or the Comments section.

The Slaters - Put Out The Trash EP

First release from 1986. My guess is that this would be pretty raw. All the better. If you can help out with any of these singles - PLEASE.

The Slaters - Teenage Dreamers 10''

Second single from 1988.

The Slaters - Crystal Girl 7""

Their last single from 1989. The song 'Crystal Girl' is contained on their LP/CD but it's the B-Side I'm after: 'Pharoah's Curse'.

The eagle has landed - thank you to Nolti (from Berlin) for sending through these mp3 files. He has a Punk Rock Radio Website (New Rose). WELL worth checking out. Play it in the background. In the foreground. Heck, everywhere.

The Scientists - 1982 (aka Live Sydney Uni, May 1982)

Cassette only release from 1982. It's official name seems to be '1982', though I have seen it referred to as 'Live Sydney Uni'. It's a great live album - but has never seen the light of day since. Some tracks have appeared on other releases: 'Rubber Never Sleeps' (originally, another cassette only release but now has been re-ished on a dubble LP) and 'Swampland (Birth of The Scientists)'. I think also a track or two appeared on the CD Box Set 'A Place Called Bad'.

Either way, it's an absolute mystery to me as to why this has not been reissued. It's a killer cassette and deserves to be heard again. Some tracks have never been seen anywhere else ('Tiger Tiger', 'Monsters In The Back of my Mind', 'You'll Get Yours' and maybe 'In Time'). I'm happy with the transfer quality though you can occasionally hear that classic cassette 'fast/slow' whirring. Hey - cassettes die quickly - I was lucky to get this.

The Fabulous Marquises - Honeymoons 7''

1980 release from Australia. Chris Walsh was in this band. He did time with the Negatives, The Champagne Edge and Moodists. Very much part of the Melbourne Punk/New Wave sound keen to experiment and perhaps - get dark.
